Swan Lake, Turner County
Swan Lake is a shallow prairie lake of roughly 183 surface acres with about four miles of shoreline, per South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks survey data. Walleye, channel catfish, bluegill, largemouth bass, perch, and northern pike all swim in it, and it fishes well from spring through fall.
- Public boat access on 455th Avenue
- Shallow and calm, an easy lake for canoes and jon boats
- Motor restrictions apply on parts of the lake, per Game, Fish and Parks

Viborg, the Home of Danish Days
Viborg was founded by Danish immigrants, and the heritage is still the heart of the town. Danish settlers arrived in the 1860s and built the nearby community of Daneville; the town itself was laid out in 1893 and incorporated in 1903, named after Viborg, Denmark. Today it is home to roughly 814 people, the Daneville Heritage Museum, and the annual Danish Days celebration.
It is also practical: groceries, hardware, cafes, and a clinic are all in town, about five minutes from the lot.

Buyer FAQ
Questions buyers ask us most
Do I need septic and propane on this lot?
Yes. There is no sewer on the parcel, so a private septic system will need Turner County approval. There is also no natural gas line on the lot, so plan on propane or electric for heat and appliances. Rural water is available through a membership that comes with the parcel.
Can I build whatever I like?
The lot is zoned Agriculture (AG) with architectural guidelines, and one-building eligibility is conveyed with purchase. That gives you a defined starting point for a primary residence, but size, placement, and outbuildings follow county rules. Check the Turner County Planning and Zoning office for the current requirements before finalizing plans.
Do people live there year-round?
Yes. Bright Shores and the surrounding shoreline mix year-round residents with weekend owners, and the county road is maintained so access holds up through the seasons.
How do Agriculture zoning and Lake Lot property taxes differ?
Vacant agricultural land and improved lake lots are assessed differently in Turner County. The Turner County Director of Equalization (400 S Main St, Parker, SD 57053, 605-297-3424) can explain the current assessments for this parcel and what an improved home would mean for taxes.
Who maintains the gravel road?
The road is privately maintained, and the Bright Shores HOA covers road maintenance with its $100 per month assessment. That keeps access predictable without a separate road agreement on your end.
Is the lot in a flood plain?
No. The listing records show the parcel is not in a flood plain, which simplifies building and insurance planning for a shoreline lot.
County questions? Contact Turner County Planning and Zoning (turner.sdcounties.org) or the Director of Equalization at 400 S Main St, Parker, SD 57053, 605-297-3424 (equalization office).
